Apprentice, Markets, Politics

  • Sean wins! If you're a fan of The Apprentice, you and everyone else in America knew that Sean was a pretty easy decision for Donald Trump over Lee. Lee's project was a total mess, and I think showed his lack of experience.  He picked a horrible team right from the start.  Lenny?  Pepi?  Roxie?  I think he should've went with Charmaine and Michael.  Sean picked an all-star team in Andrea, Tammy, and Tarek.  I think Andrea would've made a good Apprentice, too.  Sean's event (concert with Bare Naked Ladies) seemed to be a lot more organized and classy than Lee's Hockey night.
  • Market thoughts?  Well, the Black Box gave another buy signal last night on the same stuff as it did last wednesday.  I anticipated that buy adding more beta near the close yesterday.  But so far, the market is going the other way.  Pessimism is very thick out there, and folks are very frustrated about the market. Maybe we can bounce before the close.
  • Didn't Bernanke say last week that he thought inflation was contained?  Then yesterday he said the opposite?  Maybe investors are just freaked by the inconsistancy.  At least with Greenspan, nobody even understood what he was talking about.  Everyone understands Bernanke, but he just seems to be all over the map with his running commentary. If this was an election, the opposing party would call him a flip-flopper!

  • Today is election day, and maybe even a few folks from around the country will bother to go and vote.  2006 is seen to be a big year for the Democrats as they attempt to take back Congress from the GOP.  They have a decent shot at the House, but gerrymandering may make it tough.  One race being watched closely today is here in CA, between Democrat Francine Busby and Republican Brian Bilbray.  It's in a conservative district, so this will test the Democrats' ability to steal seats in tough gerrymandered districts.  If the Democrats can't win here, it'll be tough for them to make gains in November.  Most of the contested House seats are actually in Democrat districts.  The Democrats would have to hold on to those, and make inroads on GOP held seats.  Stay tuned!
  • Bush's poll numbers go up!  According to the USA Today, For the second straight time, President Bush's approval rating has edged higher in the USA TODAY/Gallup poll. It is now five percentage points above its low.  Then of course, the USA Today tries to dismiss this as mostly just being a statistical anomaly due to the margin of error in polling.  Ah, the liberal press at work...
