I think the Apple iPad Air and Mini are going to be hot Christmas gifts. Talking with a few trendy friends, they are gifting a bunch of iPads this year.

AAPL - Apple Stock and Event Dates
It's amazing to watch AAPL - Apple stock whenever the company has a big news event. Whether it is an earnings report or a product announcement, the stock seems to move in the opposite direction of the recent trend.

Thursday Night Randomosity
- $$ - By the way, the SP500 has been at these levels twice before: In 2000 and in 2007. In both cases, bear markets followed. Just saying. If the market is in a secular bear market trading range, is the market near the top again?
- Eventually, even secular bear markets end. Is this the end of the one that started in 2000? I don't think so.
- Jim Cramer says that investors aren't being fair to Apple - $AAPL. "I could argue that $458 is a good place to step in. It won't trade at six times earnings for long," Cramer said. Jim's on record.
- So, I think it's the big money moving out of Apple and trying to find the next big growth thing. Something that could be had for $15 a share that goes to $705, like Apple did from the iPod introduction through last Fall.
- Whoa, these are fighting words here in CA and in the Obama admininstration: Whole Foods co-founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market said global warming isn't really that big of a deal. “I haven’t been outspoken about global warming. I’ve been smeared quite a bit in the media about it – all of a sudden, I’m a climate change denier. I mean, climate change is obviously occurring. So -- it's gotten a little bit warmer. I guess my position on it is that I don't think that's that big a deal. Actually, humanity’s flourished usually when temperatures gradually warmed. And humans gradually adapt to it,” he told Off the Cuff. As for regulation to reduce global warming, he said, “We can probably eliminate poverty on the planet earth in the next 50 years if we will just continue to follow the tenets of free enterprise capitalism to the greatest extent possible. So I just don't want to see that change.”

Intertouchdownception Randomosity and Market Thoughts
- $$ - The stock market fell today as the replacement refs said that the Fed's QE3 may not work.
- Okay, maybe that was Philly Fed head Charles Plosser who said new bond buying announced by the Fed this month probably won’t boost growth or hiring and may jeopardize the central bank’s credibility. Well, it's a good thing that they're doing it then. Good decision.
- Credibility! snicker
- Green jobs gone wild: As Tesla Motors, a maker of electric cars, burns through cash and misses production targets, it is turning to investors and taxpayers for extra financial help.
- It seemed like for a few weeks, we ignored the world's financial problems. They didn't matter as the iPhone 5 was about to be released and central bankers were making it rain.
- Asian shares and commodities fell on Wednesday as protests in Spain underscored the country's financing challenges and investors refocused on slowing global growth as rallies, fed by major central bank easing measures, faded. But don't fight the Fed!
- Okay, so here we are heading into month end and quarter end where you'd think the market would see some buying of what's been working. But then today happened. If $AAPL is in trouble, the market is in trouble! The new iPhone 5 sold half as many as the most optimistic projections forecasted. But come on, 5 million phones is a lot of phones.
- Today was a distribution day, and the Nasdaq led on the downside. We are due for some sort of correction. My gut feeling is that we rally into the end of the week, but isn't everyone thinking that?
- I remain with some cash on the sidelines and the rest in low beta stuff. I still think I will follow the Sell in May strategy and look to buy sometime in October.

Market Thoughts and Apple!
But then, today happened. Reason du jour? Bargain hungers - with the caveat that they're still worried about Europe.
Uh... Well, must have been a slow news day. Can't blame Shellie Zimmerman, can we? Or the LA Kings?
My thoughts are that there are no reasons to buy here, as the summer correction isn't yet over. I think anything near the previous lows may be interesting, though. Even though we normally have a summer correction, I would look for that to end a bit earlier this year. But, it is what it is. Not trying to anticipate it. I am just watching. Haven't even done any short-term trades.
But... I am working on a new Black Box for short term trades. Even just one-day trades. We shall see. "Paper trading" as of now.
And Apple? Well, I think the iOS6 news is fantastic. First, for the new iPad. Add in the cars and more hands-free use, app launching, new mapping system, and integration with social networks, and the iPhone and iPad will continue to be extremely popular. Bad news for Google, though. Google apps will be buried somewhere deep on the iPhone, somewhere where we will all forget about them.

Dodgers lost game one of the Freeway Series against the Angels. In the ninth!
LA Kings won. WOW! I'm not a hockey fan per se, but I did watch some of last night's game. Until it was 4-0, then I just turned it off.
I bought a new truck and got rid of the sports car. I was thinking about something more fuel efficient, but in the end I just got something that I wanted instead. One would think that the sports car was my mid-life crisis car, but I've been driving in the truck blaring Motley Crue over the bluetooth audio, with a big grin on my face.
Kick start my heart!

Apple Blocks Sony e-Reader App
Well. Apple blocks Sony's e-reader app. Is this the kind of thing that could help Google and Android?
I have to admit, the Apple ibook reader isn't my favorite. I'm a little partial to the Barnes and Noble Nook app. But I've bought ebooks from Apple, Barnes and Noble, Amazon's Kindle, and the Google book reader apps. I think the latter is probably the least expensive option. Of course, Bluefire Reader is out there, too, and allows the reading of the library epub format.
But will Apple shut down all the competition or demand "tribute" to the King?
Apple is famous for their closed systems. It's as if the world revolves around Apple. We've been able to laugh it off before the iPhone and iPad, as Apple products fell into a small market niche. Now, Apple has a few mainstream products that are widely accepted and have large market share. Who's laughing now?
This may present an opportunity for Google and its line of Android smart phones and tablets. If Google can undercut on price and deliver more choice, they will win hearts and minds.

Wednesday Early Look
- The market giving some back this morning. Getting the blame is the lower-than-expected ISM number. It game in at 44, rather than the expected 45. Good news? Hey, the private sector only lost 532K jobs in May! Wow, that's fantastic! And if we had only lost 531K jobs, maybe the market would be in the green...
- I've been thinking about getting the new Kindle DX. It's the larger-sized Kindle coming out June 10th. But then I read about the competition coming (like Google, like an Apple tablet, etc), and I think, why be too early in this market? Prices will come down with competition. Although, I did read that some newspapers will offer big discounts on the Kindle DX with a 12-month subscription to the newspaper. So... We'll see if I get the impulse to go with the Kindle DX. Heck, Amazon is the 800-lb. gorilla in the e-book market.
- Why not get both a Kindle DX and an Apple Tablet! LOL. We'll know more about Apple's plans next week, eh?
- Orange Punch's Mark Landsbaum says, "Just thinking out loud here, but what are the ramifications of the government owning big chunks of competing car companies, like the controlling interest the feds now have in General Motors and the lesser share they hold of Chrysler stock? How’s that work?" Clever column!
