A Little Bit of Abuse

  • Hoo, the day after fun in the sun on the lake and I'm feeling The Kinks and varying aches and pains. No matter how much time spends at the gym or cycling, any activity that hits seldom-used muscles or often-used muscles at different angles brings forth some soreness the day after. OK, I'm not a kid anymore, either.
  • I don't like to see the DOW leading the Nasdaq and SP500.  Just being honest.  The DOW is rallying as I write, while the Nasdaq and SP500 are lagging.  I'd prefer to see techs leading the advance.  The DOW is a bit more defensive and tends to rally late in the cycle.  Tends to.
  • So you think you can dance?  Uh, I watched some of that last night.  Good grief.  The dancing was better than the celebrity ballroom dancing, but I think the celebrities make the latter show more interesting.  Interesting being a relative term.  I recorded Rock Star: Supernova.  Don't have high hopes for that one, but it is summertime...
  • Oh boy.  The Fed girls are out and about chatterboxin' it up again.  This time, Donald Kohn is out and about scaring investors.  The Federal Reserve can best help any unwinding of the enormous U.S. current account gap by keeping inflation in check and making sure the public remains confident that the purchasing power of the dollar will not "erode unexpectedly," said Fed vice-chairman Donald Kohn.

  • Well, this probably isn't a shocker; but, Pirates of the Caribbean:  Dead Man's Chest isn't getting good reviews.  I know it's hard to come up with a decent sequel.  Whatever worked the first time is often duplicated and has a "been there, done that" feel to it.
  • While most media headlines still claim that this economy is horrible, despite record numbers of obese people watching HD TV on their new Plasma TVs from Best Buy, Larry Kudlow counters the spin with The Bush Boom.  I know Larry ain't no stranger to spin, but lets go with it for now.  Yet, the demand-siders continue their doom and gloom. They’ve predicted four or five growth pauses in the last three years, as the economy shrugged off their pessimism and roared ahead. They have been wrong over and over again. And all signs suggest they will continue to be wrong.
  • The Sci-Fi folks think the Emmy nods are a joke!  Well, Geena Davis and Martin Sheen?  Good grief!  I don't really care who wins.  The Emmy's should take notice of what happened to the other awards shows that focused on movies that relatively few went and saw.  Those award shows received low ratings.  My guess is that the Emmy's are destined for the same fate.  We shall see.
