Massaging the Numbers

  • Hey, it's almost earnings season, so it's time for companies to massage the data! Will they keep it on the up and up?  (Gotta love YouTube!)
  • It is a monday in between the weekend and a holiday, but some of us are actually busy workin' for the man today.  Traffic was a little lighter coming in today.
  • Wall St. closes early today.  You'd think the bias would be to the long side as many folks are on vacation and beginning of the month 401k contributions are automatically buying into mutual funds.
  • Does a penniless America make cents?  The only issue I have, is that then nickels become the new penny.
  • So, the Indiana Pacers traded Ron Artest to the Sacramento Kings for Peja Stojakovic.  Now, Peja is going to sign with New Orleans.  Leaving Indiana basically giving Artest away for free.  OUCH!
  • I have no idea what or why the big deal over Star Jones.  In addition, I don't really even care.  I'd rather watch a cat massage a dog over The View.  Why folks aren't camping out in front of YouTube instead of The View is a mind boggler...
  • Market is going to close here at 10am PDT.  Hoo!  So far so good.  The news headlines are about portfolio shifting in the new month and quarter, blah blah blah.  There always has to be a reason du jour, eh?  The media could probably use the same headline whether the market went up or down.  "Investors get defensive as new quarter begins."  Or, "Investors reallocate to stocks as new quarter begins."  Either way, the new quarter gets the credit or blame!
  • More later.  Slow day here.
