Last-Minute Friday Budget Deal

imageBy now, you’ve read about the last-minute budget deal that keeps the government open.

Hooray.  We’re all saved.

“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the Senate floor that $38.5 billion will be cut from the original budget for the fiscal year that runs through September in what leaders called the biggest annual spending reduction in history — albeit from a deficit that could reach $1.5 trillion in 2011 alone. “

So.  They managed to cut $38.5B from a deficit of $1.5T.  What’s that, about 2.5%?

That’s like charging $4000 a month on your credit card, and declaring that next month, you’re going to cut $100 from your spending and only put $3900 on the charge card.

Yeah.  Just like that.

I suppose it’s good news for government workers and businesses who do business with the government.  The cash will keep flowing.  It’s also good news for those of us who watch cable news programs and want to watch something other than news about the government shutdown.

Although, that’s probably not going to happen tomorrow. eh?
