The Hydrogenated Rally

  • Cisco rocked the afterhours with an upbeat earnings report and strong outlook going forward.  John Chambers, chief executive of the world's top maker of routers and switches that direct Internet traffic, said its "momentum remains strong," surprising analysts who had expected more caution amid a slowing economy.   I saw Chambers on CNBC this morning, and he hasn't beamed like this since 1999.
  • Yesterday I mentioned Sony's mylo instant message, email, whatever device that is going to be a Wi-Fi device.  I wondered how it would compete againsts today's products that can already do that and more.   Here's more on the Sprint plan for Wi-Max broadband servicesSprint Nextel Corp. is betting $3 billion it can find millions of consumers who will pay to have high-speed Internet wherever they go.  When???  Sprint will spend $1 billion in 2007 and between $1.5 billion and $2 billion in 2008 when it rolls out service on a network that will by then reach up to 100 million people, Forsee said.  And Sony wants $350 for their Wi-Fi mylo?  No thanks.  (Okay, tempting to put up another JLo pic here...)
  • Here's the latest on sexually degrading music leading to sex.  Music that depicts women as sex objects and men as insatiable studs may encourage some teenagers to become sexually active, according to a study of U.S. teens. While popular music, from rap to country, is full of sexual content, that depiction of sex varies widely. And in the new study, researchers found that the distinction between "degrading" and "non-degrading" sexual lyrics may make a difference in teenagers' behavior.   Parents have been saying the same thing for ages.  Beyonce.  Eminem.  Elvis.  The Rolling Stones.  Wang Chung.  And what does "everybody wang chung tonight" actually mean, anyways?  That song always brings out the insatiable stud in me, I can tell you hoes and biotches that right now.
